Fall With Me by J. Lynn

5 starsJLynnFallWithMe

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

My thoughts

We met both Roxy and Reece in Stay With Me – Fall With Me is book four in the series –  and I have to admit I did a happy with-your-hands-in-the-air cheer when I found out we would get to read about their lives. Because Roxy is all kinds of awesome. She’s witty and confident and probably one of your favorite bartenders. And holy shitballs her hair! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her hair!! Want to know why I love her hair? Read the book. Ha. 😉

Something I am used to from Jennifer in this series are the most hilariously found made-up words. And lots and lots of them. They are so geniusly found and I don’t know how she comes up with them, but they had me smiling every time. They’re beyond creative and give a whole new meaning to adjectives.

Roxy and Reece have a past, and that is exactly why Reece can’t be Roxy’s future. At least that’s what she believes. They’re both haunted by events in their past, and it’s in such a way that it defines their future in more ways than they realize themselves. But sometimes, sometimes life just makes its own plans and decisions. Or maybe it’s faith, if we have to believe Katie. Either way, it’s bound to get messy in a way that makes you want to keep reading until the very last page. Because whenever Roxy and Reece are together, they’re horribly cute and incredibly hot at the same time. Perfect combination I would say.

Emotionally, this is a very intense book. It has an insane amount of suspense and love and friendship and loss and so much grief. It’s about anger and forgiveness of the rawest and hardest kind. It’s about choices and pain and how it is life consuming. But it’s also a story of second chances at love and at… life. It shows that everything isn’t always about wrong or right, but something different all together. It’s about how the choices you make define what you have to live with. It’s about many, so many things but above all that it’s about the strength and beauty of love.

And love getting steamy, because Reece, well Reece is HOT alright? He’s a cop and holy-camoli it shows. In the best way possible. And he’s not just hot. Oh no, he becomes more perfect, alright? Because besides the obvious panty-in-flames – as Roxy puts it – sexiness radiating from every pore, he’s also a really good guy. Compassionate and caring, sweet and protective, bossy and commanding but only in certain circumstances – and yes that makes it totally okay.

There is so much in this book that I can’t even begin to write it down. So, yes, yes, YES I recommend this book! For so many reasons it’s hard to express. It’s beautiful and meaningful, it’s steamy and sweet, it gives you a your-head-in-the-clouds feeling and keeps your feet on the ground at the same time and it will have your heart beating wild for several reasons.

And, thanks to Goodreads, I know who’s the lucky one in the next instalment, which is actually coming this September already! *WOOP*

AND  – yes there’s more!! – there’s a 4.5 book coming in – it’s true – a month! Even better? It’s actually a month minus 3 days! And yes that totally makes it so much closer! 😀 Have I mentioned that it is probably also the cutest paperback I own?

******* WARNING SPOILERS***********

I hate that this is a spoiler, because I really wanted to make this clear, but the blurb keeps it vague by stating hate-crime and the last thing I want to do is ruin the book for someone. I read the first chapter of this book in Stay With Me and I was immediately intrigued and heartbroken. I’m straight, but I feel personally offended when homosexuals or bisexuals or whatever are being looked down on by their preferences in gender. For God’s sake, let everyone love whoever she or he wants to love. Why would something be normal and the other not? Love is love. In whatever form it comes. I don’t get why people make such a problem of it. So when I read about Charlie, I already knew I had to read this book. I think it is a subject that doesn’t get enough attention while it is the reality – or in a different form –  in so many lives.

And it was sad. So sad. Not just what happened, but how one simple rock can change the lives of three people forever.
